A wired handheld microphone for speeches, MCs and readings. Wired rather than wireless means no battery to fail mid-speech and no interference — which is why lecterns and fixed positions still use them.

Taken as a spare even where wireless units are booked, since a dead microphone during a father-of-the-bride speech is not a recoverable moment.
