A walk-around character, with a person inside
Mascot hire means a person in a full-body character costume who spends the afternoon at your party: waving children in at the gate, standing beside the birthday child for the cake, joining the dancing, posing for photographs. It is a performer, not a costume on loan. We do not sell suits or hire them out empty, which matters if you searched how much a mascot costume costs in Kenya: what we offer is the character, the person wearing it and someone from our team on site for the whole session.
What a mascot costs for three hours
The booking is KSh 8,000 per 3-hour session. Because one of our team is at the party throughout, the session is scheduled to finish by 6pm, in line with our terms for attended children's entertainment. Transport is the only line added, priced by distance from our base on Waiyaki Way, Uthiru. A 50% deposit holds the date, and the balance is cleared before the day. Want a second character so two children can each have one? Ask: we confirm on the quote which characters are free together.
Three hours is not three hours in the suit
A character costume is hot. Hamilton College's mascot programme in the United States writes that the costume becomes very hot and is hard to move in, so its mascot works in 20 to 30 minute spells with 10 to 15 minute breaks, and no performer wears it for more than two hours. Under a Nairobi afternoon sun the suit gets no cooler. Plan the three hours as four to six appearances rather than one long walkabout: one at arrival, one for the cake, one for photos, one at goodbye. Give the performer a shaded, private room or tent corner to take the head off between spells, out of sight of the children, and a bottle of water.
Small children and big characters
A toddler may love a giant character at once, or may need ten minutes of watching from a parent's lap first. Brief the performer on who is shy. The character can wave from a distance, crouch down to a child's height, and wait for the child to come over, rather than anyone carrying a crying two-year-old across the lawn for a photo. An adult from your side stays with the children for the whole party, as our terms ask, and keeps the older ones from pulling at the costume.
Choosing the character
Tell us the party theme or the animal your child loves, and the date. The quote names the character that is free for your day. Branded cartoon characters are a different matter: we confirm only the characters we actually have, so if a film or TV character is the theme, ask before you print invitations promising it.
The rest of the party
A mascot is a highlight, not a whole programme. Between appearances, face painting for up to 50 children or a clown running games keeps things moving, and a photo booth with party props gives guests their own photographs with the character. For a seated moment, a magic show or a puppet show gives the performer a long break. All of them are on our kids' activities and performers page, and the castles and play equipment are in kids' entertainment hire.

Mascot hire questions
How much is a mascot for hire in Nairobi?
KSh 8,000 per 3-hour session, with someone from our team on site. Transport is added by distance.
How long does the mascot stay?
Three hours, finishing by 6pm, with short breaks out of sight because the costume is hot.
Which characters are available?
Tell us your theme and date and we confirm the characters free that day on your quote.
Does a handler come along?
Yes. Someone from our team is on site for the whole session, by our terms.
Do you sell or rent out mascot costumes?
No. We hire the character with the person who wears it.
What hours can the children actually play on the equipment?
Children’s equipment hires on the same 24-hour basis as the rest of our inventory, so it does not have to disappear at a fixed hour. What we strongly recommend is that active play happens in daylight — ideally between 10:00am and 6:00pm — for safety, visibility, supervision and security. That recommendation does not change your agreed delivery or collection time. Where a Sherehe crew member supervises an attended session, such as a clown, mascot or face painter, that session is scheduled to finish by 6:00pm because someone from our team is on site throughout it. We may ask that play stops where lighting, weather, supervision or site conditions make it unsafe.
What are the safety rules for bouncing castles and play equipment?
Children must have appropriate adult supervision at all times — this is the one rule we will not flex on, and parents, guardians and organisers remain responsible for it throughout the event. Beyond that: follow the manufacturer’s age, capacity and safety instructions; keep food, drinks, sharp objects and shoes off the equipment where prohibited; do not move equipment after it has been installed; do not overcrowd it; keep older and younger children separated where you can, because collisions between different sizes cause most of the injuries we see; and adults should not use children’s equipment unless it is specifically rated for adult use.
